The estranged father of the pop singer Britney Spears has reportedly had his leg amputated and “is not doing well,” according to new reports.
Jamie Spears Has Leg Amputated
TMZ reported that Jamie Spears, 71, “had a massive infection in one of his legs that landed him in a hospital for weeks. He had 5 unsuccessful surgeries to contain the infection, and doctors decided the only way to proceed was amputation.”
Daily Mail alleged that there is now hope that Britney will mend her fractured relationship with Jamie, who reportedly has no ill will towards her in the wake of their conservatorship battle fall out. Jamie had become Britney’s conservator back in 2008 after she suffered a mental breakdown, and he controlled every aspect of her life until she was finally freed from the conservatorship in 2021.
“He’s had other ailments and has been downcast amid the torrent of criticism over his handling of the conservatorship … something he thinks is terribly unfair,” TMZ stated. “Jamie is the one who moved from Louisiana to care for his daughter back in 2007. Lots of people who were involved back then say Jamie may have saved Britney’s life.”

Britney Fires Back
Sources close to Britney, however, have told Page Six that she has no interest in reconciling with Jamie despite his health issues. Though Britney has been reconciling with her mother Lynne, 68, this remains “an active work in progress,” according to one insider.
“Her mom does love her. There is no doubt about that,” a source told People Magazine on Monday, adding that Lynne has been “very apologetic” and “takes full blame” for their strained relationship, and that she is committed to “really making an effort to be in Britney’s life.”
The source explained that Britney “is still hurt because she feels her mom could have done more to help” during the thirteen year conservatorship. Lynne was spotted at Britney’s 42nd birthday party last Friday, with a source saying that “being together and celebrating her birthday was a really nice moment for the family.”
Britney’s Abortion Claim
This comes after Britney shocked the world back in October when she revealed in her memoir “The Woman In Me” that she had an abortion during her time dating the singer Justin Timberlake two decades ago.
“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” Britney wrote, according to People Magazine. “But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby,” she continued. “I don’t know if that was the right decision. If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
