Barack Obama is reportedly concerned about President Joe Biden’s prospects for defeating Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

The news comes via a Wall Street Journal article noting that Democrats are starting to get worried about Biden’s poor poll numbers and general unease about his re-election campaign.

They describe election-related news weighing down the President’s chances: “A round of dismal polls is increasing jitters among Democrats.”

Among those getting jittery is Obama, who has expressed disquiet because he “knows this is going to be a close race” and “feels that Democrats very well could lose” the election.

Obama, according to the Journal, frets that “the alternative” – or Trump winning – “is pretty dangerous for democracy.”

Former President Trump responded on Truth Social writing, “Crooked Joe Biden is a THREAT TO DEMOCRACY!”

Obama Worried Biden Is Going To Lose To Trump

It doesn’t exactly instill confidence to have a guy willing to campaign on your behalf, who can deliver some momentum as being infinitely more popular to the Democrat voter, openly fretting that the ship is sinking heading into 2024.

Obama has previously “promised to do all he could to help the president get reelected.”

Which includes, apparently, suggesting behind the scenes that maybe, just maybe, Biden can’t get the job done. But this isn’t the first time Obama has been worried about Biden losing to Trump.

According to a Washington Post report in August, Obama “voiced concern about Donald Trump’s political strengths,” which include an intensely loyal following, support from conservative media, and a country polarized to the point where they don’t want either candidate.

His comments, according to the Post, underline a concern that “Trump could be a more formidable candidate than many Democrats realize.”

Obama was also famously quoted disparaging Biden during his 2020 White House campaign as a guy capable of screwing up just about anything.

A Trump Comeback Is Looking More And More Promising

Of course, Obama being worried about Biden’s potential to lose comes as his former campaign strategist and advisor David Axelrod has been sounding alarm bells to anybody who will listen.

Axelrod has described recent polling from the Wall Street Journal as “very, very dark” for Biden’s re-election chances.

“You know, job approval down, ratings generally down, most of the comparatives with Trump … not good,” Axelrod said while appearing on the podcast “Hacks on Tap.”

A Pew Research Center poll released late last week shows President Biden with a meager 33% approval rating with “large majorities of Americans express little or no confidence in Biden’s ability to handle a number of issues.”

A bevy of other polls show Trump leading in several key battleground states, causing even further concern among some Democratic strategists and officials.
