When South Carolina Senator Tim Scott ran for president this year, he did not attack or criticize Donald Trump.

Now that he’s dropped out, the Republican senator is reportedly going to help the former president with black voters.

Scott’s state of South Carolina famously “made Joe Biden president” thanks to his support from black voters in the state during the Democratic primary.

Tim Scott Tapped by Team Trump for Black Voter Outreach

Scott could play a significant role in Trump’s campaign and among black voters.

The Hill reports, “Scott has been a fixture on Trump’s stage since dropping his 2024 bid late last year, spurring speculation he could be Trump’s vice president pick. He also drew scrutiny recently over remarks defending Trump’s policies regarding race.”

“The South Carolina senator’s public support of Trump comes as Republicans have recently made a concerted effort to appeal to more Black voters, long seen as a core constituency for Democrats,” The Hill added.

The story continued:

“He certainly brings a lot to the table,” Brian Seitchik, GOP strategist and Trump campaign alum, told The Hill. “He’s a substantive person. He’s very conservative, with strong ties into the African American community.”

…

“The senator and former president have a very strong working relationship and accomplished a lot during the Trump administration,” the source added.

Another big selling point for Scott to tout was him working with the Trump administration to ensure permanent funding for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Scott said during a recent interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that Trump did more for minorities than “Biden will ever do.”

“Think about the fact that Donald Trump put more money in historically Black colleges and universities than any other president,” Scott said.

Polls Rising with Black Voters

“Trump won a meager 6 percent of Black voter support in 2016 during his first presidential bid, according to Pew Research Center,” The Hill noted. “That number ticked up to 12 percent in 2020, but Black voters remain staunch supporters of the Democratic Party.”

Trump’s rise with black voters comes as polls also show Joe Biden slipping with the same demographic.

Maybe Donald Trump gets a historic number of black voters on his side in 2024? Maybe Tim Scott can help with that.
