Players can collect physical prize pieces from menu items and digital game pieces by using the restaurant chain’s mobile application.
For the first time in nearly a decade, the popular Monopoly game will return to McDonald’s.
On Sept. 29, the international quick-serve restaurant chain announced it is reviving its peel-and-reveal Monopoly game in U.S. restaurants. The stickers on certain menu items will officially return on Oct. 6, and the game will continue through Nov. 23.
“Our fans have been clamoring for the return of Monopoly at McDonald’s, and we’re thrilled to bring it back with a modern, digital spin,” Alyssa Buetikofer, senior vice president and chief marketing and customer experience officer of McDonald’s USA, said in a news release. “This game is a core memory for so many customers, and we’re excited that those memories can now be shared across generations.”
In a new twist on the classic promotion, McDonald’s will offer both peel-off stickers and a new digital element available through its mobile application.
The Monopoly Game at McDonald’s allows customers to collect physical or digital game pieces on select menu items to win prizes ranging from food to cash, trips, and gift cards. Prizes range from free items at McDonald’s to a $1 million cash prize.
Physical pieces appear on items such as Big Macs, Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, McMuffins, Chicken McNuggets, large fries, hash browns, and select beverages.
Digital pieces can be earned through app orders on items including Quarter Pounders, McCrispy sandwiches, McCrispy strips, McGriddles, biscuit sandwiches, medium fries, and select McCafé beverages.
As with the original, long-running iteration of the promotion, players peel or scan game pieces to reveal instant prizes, which can include menu items or MyMcDonald’s Rewards points, or collect property pieces to compete for larger prizes, McDonald’s said. Each game piece also unlocks a “bonus play” feature in the app for a second chance to win additional prizes.
Prizes in the 2025 promotion include 1 million American Airlines AAdvantage miles, a 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a $50,000 vacation to a Monopoly GO! destination, a $10,000 Lowe’s shopping spree, and a $1 million cash prize.
In a release also published on Sept. 29, Best Buy said it is participating as an official prize partner, offering Samsung OLED TVs and e-gift cards through Bonus Play, property-piece combinations, and additional rewards for players who scan 28 property pieces during the promotion.
In 2001, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested eight Americans for their role in what it called a “nationwide scheme” to defraud McDonald’s and other contest participants. The law enforcement agency alleged the group manipulated the distribution of high-value game pieces to illicitly claim more than $13 million worth of prizes.
The story of the scam and the FBI investigation was made into a six-part miniseries called McMillion$ that aired on HBO in 2020.
