The legendary former “Three’s Company” star Suzanne Somers died back in October just one day before her 77th birthday after a decades-long battle with breast cancer. Now, it’s been revealed that Somers performed for one final time at her own memorial service after her death, and that there “wasn’t a dry eye in the room.”
Somers Performs At Her Own Memorial Service
People Magazine reported that before her death, Somers recorded herself singing a touching rendition of Leon Russell’s 1970 classic, “A Song for You.” This video was then played at her memorial service so that she could deliver one final performance for her loved ones after her passing.
“It took me two weeks to rehearse this song before I could sing it without crying,” Somers said in the video. “It reminds me of that beautiful quote, ‘Music is what feelings sound like.’”
Somers’ husband Alan Hamel, who she was married to for 46 years, said that it was fitting to close out her memorial service with this performance.
“There wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” Hamel stated.
Hamel went on to explained that “A Song For You” was special to him and his wife, saying that it was “our song.”
“Suzanne sang it to me every night on stage in Las Vegas,” Hamel continued. “Whenever she sang it, Suzanne cried, I cried and so did every single person in the audience.”

Somers’ Memorial Services
Somers had two memorial services with the first taking place on November 30 in Palm Desert, California, and the second on December 10 in her hometown of San Bruno, California.
“Alan was remarkably gregarious and welcoming,” Somers’ publicist R. Couri Hay said of the first memorial. “It was a beautiful and extremely authentic evening filled with personal reminiscences, song, and of course, heart-stopping videos of Suzanne singing in Vegas and talking to the audience. It was so moving and heartfelt.”
“Suzanne loved cocktail parties and we threw her a great one at Stone Eagle Club in Palm Desert,” Hamel chimed in to add.
In another video played at the memorial services, Somers’ son Bruce talked about her “secret power” to make anyone and everyone feel “as loved as we all need to be.”
“Everyone here knows my mom as Suzanne Somers, but the reality is to me is, she wasn’t Suzanne Somers, she’s just my mom,” he said. “I am the luckiest man on Earth . . . I got the most amazing mother, who taught me how to love, how to love others, love myself, have compassion, have empathy and be kind — be kind to everyone.”

Somers Passes Away
The world was devastated when Somers lost her decades-long battle with breast cancer on October 15, one day before what would have been her 77th birthday.
“Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Hay wrote in a statement shared on behalf of Somers’ family at the time.
“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” the statement continued. “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”
Somers was a one-of-a-kind woman who always marched to the beat of her own drum, so it comes as no surprise that she hatched a plan to perform at her own memorial service. Somers really went out with a bang, and there will never be another one like her!
