Pam Bondi will assume the role of U.S. Attorney General after the Senate voted to confirm her 54-46 on Tuesday.

Bondi faced opposition from Democrats who are wary of a Trump loyalist serving as the chief law enforcement officer of the federal government. Bondi, formerly a corporate lobbyist and two-time attorney general of Florida, acted as one of Trump’s defense lawyers during his first impeachment trial.

“Pam is a fighter who will end the two-tiered justice system and restore the rule of law,” U.S. Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene, another Trump enthusiast, said after the vote. “There’s a lot of work ahead, but I’m thankful the Senate confirmed Pam to get it done.”

During her confirmation hearing, Bondi said she would end the weaponization of the Department of Justice, particularly against people of faith targeted by the FBI under the Biden administration.

Bondi promised to uphold fundamental rights, prioritize antitrust laws, advise Trump that drug cartels are terrorists, hold opioid manufacturers accountable, combat human trafficking and assist in border security. She also said she will review case-by-case any possible pardons of Jan. 6 riot defendants.

“My overriding objective will be to return the Department of Justice to its core mission of keeping Americans safe and vigorously prosecuting criminals,” Bondi pledged.
