Earlier this month, we reported that the country music singer Reba McEntire had signed on to sing the national anthem at the upcoming Super Bowl. Now, McEntire has gotten more good news, as she’s scored her own sitcom on NBC.

A new Reba McEntire sitcom is in the works at NBC.

McEntire Scores New Sitcom

Yahoo News reported that NBC has ordered a pilot for a multi-camera comedy that has yet to be titled and stars McEntire, 68, as a woman who “inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had,” according to the show’s official description.

Kevin Abbott, who worked with McEntire on her previous sitcom “Reba,” has already signed on as writer and executive producer of the new show.

“Reba” was a huge hit, running for six seasons from 2001-2007 on The WB and The CW.

McEntire’s Acting History

After “Reba” came to an end, McEntire went on to star in the ABC comedy “Malibu Country” and to play a recurring role on CBS’ “Young Sheldon” before joining the cast of ABC’s “Big Sky” for its third and final season. On top of all that, she currently serves as a coach on the NBC singing competition show “The Voice,” and she reunited with her “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman to star in the 2023 Lifetime movie The Hammer.

Back in 2022, McEntire opened up about trying to put a new series together.

“We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the “Reba” show,” she said at the time, according to People Magazine. “I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years.”

“It was fun, the cast the crew everybody we got to work with and play with, they were wonderful people,” she added of her time on “Reba.” “We wanted to get back together like a reunion and have fun, so hopefully that will happen one day.”

Reba McEntire will star in and executive produce a new untitled sitcom series, which has already been given a pilot order from NBC, reuniting her with the team behind her last two comedies, “Reba” and “Malibu Country.”

McEntire To Sing National Anthem At Super Bowl

Fans were overjoyed earlier this month when it was revealed that McEntire will be performing the national anthem before the Super Bowl in February.

“I’m honored to be a part of something as big and historic as the Super Bowl coming to Las Vegas for the first time,” McEntire said in a statement, according to Taste Of Country. “2024 marks 50 years since I was discovered singing the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that anniversary.”

This was a reference to McEntire singing the national anthem publicly for the first time back in 1974 at the National Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City.

After the announcement, McEntire opened up to CBS News about being told of this incredible Super Bowl opportunity by her manager.

“He said that they wanted me to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, and I said ‘Oh my gosh. Well, let me think about that,’” McEntire recalled. “And Rex Linn, my boyfriend, who is a huge football fan, he said, ‘Yes, she’ll do it. Absolutely.’ So that’s where we’re at.”

McEntire is one of the most talented people alive today, so we can’t say that we’re surprised to see her scoring all of these amazing gigs. We wish McEntire the best of luck singing the national anthem next month, and we can’t wait to see her sitcom when it finally airs!
